SYMPOSIUM
ON WOMEN'S STUDIES IN SOCIAL SCIENCES
Symposium Announcement
In the historical process, the social position of women has always varied. Although there were periods and societies in which they were exalted as a symbol of motherhood and productivity, women were perceived as a threat to the male-dominated hierarchy for a long time. Although this perception of threat varies in different geographies and times by feeding on various elements, this situation has forced women to live within the boundaries drawn by men. With the modernization process, the secondary position of women against men has begun to be questioned by different segments of society, especially by women.
One of the main indicators of the transition from traditional society to modern society is the inclusion of women in the public sphere. This transformation has greatly changed the position of women in social life. While the role assigned to women in agricultural society was limited to motherhood and subsistence activities within a narrow framework, this situation changed after the industrial revolution and women started to participate in economic life together with men. The gradual increase in the effectiveness of women in economic life naturally brought along the debates on education, health, political, social, and economic rights.
In this context, the literature on women’s studies in all fields of social sciences, especially in academia, is expanding day by day. However, it is a fact that studies on women in a single field of Social Sciences can reveal only one dimension of the issue. In this context, we organize the International Symposium on Women’s Studies in Social Sciences, which we believe will create a useful discussion environment by bringing together scientists who work on the subject from an interdisciplinary perspective.
We invite all scientists working in the field of Social Sciences to our online symposium to share their knowledge and experience.
